Oh Katie, I adore the whole concept of this post -- what a super thoughtful offering to your subscribers (and young readers). I haven't read any of these! (Though I've heard great things about the Upside Down Magic series and own the first book.)

Thank you Sarah! I think you would like them all--I bet your girls would find Upside Down Magic especially fun- my daughter preferred the audiobook version. Super talented narrator!

What a theme, especially at the beginning of the school year when everyone is sorting out where they belong and who their friends are (and what if that friend isn't in the same class.... we know how that goes).

We tore through Upside Down Magic at your recommendation and these other two are new to me -- I can't wait to dive in.

Love this list! Thank you so much. My 9-year old son struggles a lot socially and emotionally, and definitely struggles with transitions in general. This is such a great idea - books for when you just don't fit in.

He loved reading Frankie's World https://bookshop.org/p/books/frankie-s-world-a-graphic-novel-aoife-dooley/17329909 I did not read it myself yet, but he really enjoyed it.

And, on the younger side of things, some days at bedtime with my very impulsive 6-year old son, I instinctively know to reach for Bad Dog, Marley. The main gist is that Marley can't seem to ever do the right thing, or even know what the right thing to do is, and he (rightly) fears that his family will give him away as they get increasingly fed up with his antics. He tries hard to be good, but still ends up doing the wrong thing much of the time. But it turns out that his tendency towards recklessness also makes him brave in a crisis, and the family realizes how much they truly love and value him in the end. https://bookshop.org/p/books/bad-dog-marley-john-grogan/8915307?ean=9780061171147

Ally, I had never heard of Frankie’s World and just put it on hold at the library. I’m so glad your son connected with those books❤️ and I hope the fall transition is going ok—-and good call on Bad Dog, Marley! Even without the pressures of social media (shudder) I know kids often feel like everyone else besides them has it together. I’m so glad we have stories to help them feel less alone.
