Yes! Actually, the author said that many of Little Women’s plot points are woven into the books...some without her even noticing. The characters remind me so much of the March sisters.
I guess she was also inspired by Edward Eager and E.Nesbit :)
You are so observant! I noticed it too, but haven’t looked up whether the author purposely made the connection--I will look it up now! Couldn’t be a coincidence, right?
I can't sing the praises of The Penderwicks series enough! They are such enjoyable books, especially the the first three. I own all of them in paperback.
I agree- the first three are definitely the best. Without giving too much away, I understand why the author needed/wanted the girls to grow up, but I was so invested in them as children!
Happy birthday, friend! 40 is great. (And also, I definitely intended my message about being good enough to apply to all of life, not just raising readers, so please apple it in large and generous amounts, as often as needed.)
I’ve heard of the Penderwick series but never read it--sounds delightful! Definitely adding to my list. Just based on your description, the characters are giving me Little Women vibes.
The Penderwick series sound lovely and I'm glad you included the note about your son - we've really tried to expose my son to books with both female and male protagonists.
My older son has been LOVING Ranger In Time, which I had never heard of before this newsletter - I am super excited to look into the Magic Bone series for both my 6- and my 9-year old! These recommendations are always fantastic.
I have heard of the Penderwicks but didn't know much about the series. I am sold on it now!
I am forever grateful to you for introducing me to The Penderwicks and while I haven't read them with. my daughters yet, I cannot wait and it is next for me and B (after we finish the latest Stella book). This series is perfection and I've recommended it to so many people who also have loved it.
I'm surprised to learn the series is 20 years ago as the books are timeless. I wouldn't have been able to guess when they were written.

Even the title reminds me of the Charles Dickens’ Pickwick Papers that the March sisters used to act out!

I loved my 30s but do hear that 40s are even better...loved starting to feel really comfy in my own skin.

Would love to win this book for my daughter. I hope Canadians are eligible.
Totally! At this point, I buy the books and mail them myself--and nothing makes me happier than sharing them with people--no matter where they live.
I’ve heard of this series!!! Gonna recommend from now on :)
Callie- just saying- you’d LOVE the Penderwicks for a cozy read ❤️

Ally, I’m so so glad!!! Please let me know how your kids like magic bone-it’s definitely silly, but my kids certainly loved it!
